My Weekly Bump Board

I realize that I may be able to use it in several weeks, I may have to wait months or years, or I may never get to use it, but I decided to find myself a project for the 2WW (well...really 9 day wait). I first saw the chalkboards for the weekly bump pics when my sister-in-law was pregnant. I'm sure they saw the idea on Pinterest and my brother made an awesome board for them to use. Now it is all the craze!

I thought about doing an entire chalkboard wall, but I didn't want to room to be too dark. So, I decide that I too wanted a framed chalkboard to hang on the wall. I was looking on Etsy and found magnetic chalk boards! I thought that would be such a good idea because then I could use the chalkboard as a memo board by using magnets to pin stuff on it. I can then hang it on the wall above the baby dresser. So, these magnetic chalkboards were extremely expensive on Etsy for a large board that I wanted. We're talking $200-$300. Really?!?

So, I went on Pinterest and typed in "magnetic chalkboard" where I found a blog post about how to make your own. I ordered the items and Mike and I put it together this past weekend. Isn't it cute?

If you are interested in making one for yourself, read below.
The items needed:
1. 24 in. x 36 in. White Picture/Poster Frame from Rakuten.com - $43.99
2. 24 in. x 36 in. Galvanized Steel Flat Sheet from HomeDepot.com - $9.34
3. Black Krylon Chalkboard Aerosol Spray Paint from Amazon.com - $8.79
How to put it together:

Use a sander on one side of the sheet metal. The chalkboard spray will
hold better if it is scratched up some.
Apply two coats of chalkboard spray paint to sanded side.
Let dry 15 minutes between coats and after 2nd coat.
Place the sheet metal in frame and enjoy!
It was super easy to make and it sure beats spending hundreds of dollars on something that I could make for about $60! I'm sure if you go to a craft store like Hobby Lobby or Michaels, then you could probably find a frame cheaper...especially when they have their 50% off sales! :)

Anyways, I realize that it seems crazy that I made a weekly bump board when I don't even know that I am pregnant, but then again maybe not. I did recently paint the nursery. ;)

P.S. Wait until it is nice outside (we didn't because of the snow) and apply the spray paint outside. Our dumb butts had to wipe down walls and clean the carpets (that we had just cleaned). :/

I love that! I've been thinking about buying one but this looks way cheaper and you can make the size you want!! (and not pay for shipping!)

I love that you are doing things to prepare for your baby even though you don't know how long it might take. I need to do that same :)

i love yours!!! I made one over the summer only I used an old picture frame (it was huge) and spray painted the glass. I have it sitting in the closet ready to use but I think I might do what you did..."praying for baby" and hang it up! Thanks buddy!

I made our baby bump board too! Ours isn't magnetics though. Got a piece of chalkboard from Home Depot to fit a frame from Hobby Lobby. Such a cheap alternative than other things! Can't wait to see the updates on it :)
