And the Answers Start Coming

I talked to Dr. Yala yesterday about Mike's Semen Analysis and my blood work. Mike's sperm count is extremely low and I am not ovulating regularly. Oh goody (not). We are both pretty discouraged after hearing this news.

Today I had a Hysterosalpingogram done. It did not show any blockages to the fallopian tubes. Hooray!

What's next? Dr. Yala is writing up another order for Mike to get another Semen Analysis done. It has to be done a month after the first one, so that won't be until on or after September 17th.

That's all for now.

1st Appointment

Mike and I met Dr. Yalamanchili today for a consultation. She did a quick exam on me and got us started on what we need to do now. These are our instructions:

Mike is going to have a Semen Analysis done this Thursday.

My instructions are more complex:
*As soon as I start my period (should be this week), I will call and make an appointment for when my cycle ends to have a test done (approx. a week later) that is called a Hysterosalpingogram.
*3 days after the start of my period, I will have blood work done. There will be 8 tests done using my blood: CBC, FSH, LH, Prolaction, TSH Reflex, DHEA, DHEAS, Total & Free Testosterone.
*2 days before my appointment for the Hysterosalpingogram, I will start taking a pill called Doxycycline Hyclate. I will take one tablet two times a day for seven days. This pill kills bacteria.
*When my period has ended, I will have the Hysterosalpingogram done.

I am really excited to get the ball rolling (FINALLY).

What to Expect Before You're Expecting to Expect

Ok wait. That's not the title. That was the book that Lily was reading in How I Met Your Mother. I searched for that one and only found "What to Expect Before You're Expecting". Go figure. ;)

I purchased this book and I am hoping that it has a lot of useful information and I know that it has worksheets and what not for that will be good. I also bought one for my sister because she and her husband are also TTC.

The Kids

These are our kids. Mackey is the brown one with blue eyes. He is a (almost) 2 year old beagle mix. Roxy is the big eared dog. She is a 6 year old beagle/basset hound mix. These two are our babies. We love them to pieces. I can't imagine our life being as fun without them. There is never a dull moment in this household with them around (well...except when they are sleeping).

About Us

This is me and the love of my life, Mike, on our wedding day.

About Me: I turned the big 3-0 this year. I also finished my bachelors degree in Elementary Education. I am currently searching for a job, but set up to be a substitute teacher for the 2012-2013 school year. Nothing comes easy, so I have to work on building my relevant work experience. I like to read, scrapbook, and make jewelry.

About Mike: Mike is 32 and recently finished his 5 years of schooling to become a union electrician. He is a couple hundred hours (of working hours) short to become a journeyman electrician, but he should be there soon. Mike likes to read, play golf, bags...pretty much anything competitive.

About Us: Our timeline....
  • June 2002 - Mike and I met when we worked together at Best Buy. Truth be told...I thought he was a bit of an arrogant @$$ before I really got to know him. :)
  • July 2003 - After both getting out of serious relationships, we decided to take things a little slow and just hang out.
  • August 6, 2003 - We shared our first kiss.
  • August 8, 2003 - We went on our first date to see American Wedding and had dinner at Applebee's.
  • October 2004 - We moved into a two bedroom apartment together in Manteno, IL.
  • November 30, 2004 - Mike got down on one knee in the hallway of our apartment, said a "short but sweet" speech and asked me to marry him. We went to dinner that night to celebrate with two of our closest friends.
  • March 4, 2006 - We tied the knot at St. Patrick's Church in Momence, IL.
  • March 6-11, 2006 - We honeymooned in Akumal, Quintana Roo, MX.
  • August 6, 2006 - We purchased our first home in Bradley, IL.
  • September 16, 2006 - My sister bought us a housewarming present....a puppy. We named her Roxy. Roxy is a beagle/basset hound mix.
  • November 21, 2010 - We adopted another beagle mix. We named him Mackey.
  • March 10-17, 2011 - We took a 5 year anniversary trip to Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo, MX. This was the best trip ever. We still reminisce about it. :)

I was really hoping for a Shades of Grey baby. Fail.

My husband and I have unsuccessfully been TTC on and off for 4 years. Not for lack of trying. My sister is convinced that I have the same issue that my mom had that just required her to have surgery to unblock her fallopian tubes. I am hoping that is all. Insurance covers the consultation, tests to figure out what the problem is, hormonal treatments, and 1 cycle of In Vitro. I am hoping we don't even have to worry about InVitro.

Why have we waited 4 years to get checked out? Well....mainly one big reason. My husband, Mike, had been going through an electrician apprentice program for the past 5 years and I had been working on my bachelors degree in Elementary Education. We were DYING to start a family, so we figured "if it happens, then it happens"....but we also thought that it would be best to finish our schooling. Well....we both finished our schooling late spring/earlier summer. We were hoping that when our stress went away, we would conceive. Eh. Wrong. We have been trying and still nothing.

With that being said, I got on the phone with our insurance company today to find out what they cover and I called the OBGYN to set up an appointment to get started on finding out what the problem is. We have an appointment for the 14th and I cannot wait. We both want this so badly and we are tired of waiting. We aren't getting any younger.
